Over the past few months I've been listening to a lot of Audio Books, and just today I finished the last book in the Speaker for the Dead trilogy, Children of the Mind. At the end of the recording, Orson Scott Card himself speaks about the book and his plans for the series. He mentions that originally he planned to stop the series at CotM and leave it at that, but then he started writing the Shadow series, focusing on Bean.[break] The Shadow trilogy has closed, with Bean and his children going off into space on a never ending journey. Similarly, the Speaker series ends with Jane, Miro, neo-Peter, and Wang-mu leaving on their own journey. Card says that he plans to write a book that would bring the two forks in the series back together again.
How freaking awesome would it be to have a book where the two groups meet together to resolve the problem of communicating with the Descoladores. Surely a species such as these, who's mastery is the genetic manipulation of other beings, could find a way to halt Bean's gigantism.
This single prospect gives me great hope for a new book. Since he finished Shadow of the Giant, Card has been writing lots of little short stories that take place in the Enderverse, but in different part's of the timeline. I've enjoyed them all, but a new unifying book would be simply awesome.
